There is a fuel dump near Well 23 which is serviced by Outback Travel Centres (formerly known as Capricorn Roadhouse). The fuel is delivered from Newman approximately 430 kilometres from Well 23.

The fuel needs to be ordered at least 6 weeks in advance of a trip on the stock route and is supplied at the fuel dump as close as possible to the requested date. Customers can contact Outback Travel Centres via their website at: https://www.outbackfueldistributors.com.au/.

The round trip time of the delivery truck is 13 hours, which includes the time to unload the fuel drums at Well 23. This is quite an achievement considering the total distance is about 860 kms.

If you planned to visit Newman and the Capricorn Roadhouse, you would find not only a fuel station, but also a convenience store, 325 room accommodation and a Bar & Grill restaurant. You can view the website at https://www.outbacktc.com.au/  There are also Outback Travel Centre sites at Port Hedland, Carnarvon and Karratha.

The drums of fuel, are they safe or is there a chance of arriving and finding your fuel stolen? Then you stuck and out of pocket.

      Hi Douglas
Usually it is safe. The drums will be labelled with the name of the person ordering the fuel. There aren’t many travellers who would take advantage of the fuel drop. If you are planning a trip on the Canning Stock Route – best wishes and have a good one.
